The Gothic Beauty of Harry Halim’s Collections

The Gothic Beauty of Harry Halim’s Collections

With its androgynous characteristics and mythological influences, theautumn/winter 2011 collection by Harry Halim can be interpreted as a continuation of the designer’s previous collections, particularly from hisspring/summer 2011 range.
Entitled ‘Atropos’, after the goddess in Greek mythology who chose the mechanism of death and ended the life of each mortal by cutting their thread, the collection relies on interesting processes of deconstructing fabrics and layering garments. Examples of the designer’s inventiveness include a new cut of trousers with long trains at the back, and dresses with high slits and floating sharp pointy hems that evoke the image of Atropos floating amidst black clouds and souls. Sheep furleatherpython skin, and customized leather provide animalistic feelings of wilderness to the collection that contrast with elegant fabrications from silk crepe and cashmere.
