The Gothic Beauty of Harry Halim’s Collections

With its androgynous characteristics and mythological influences, theautumn/winter 2011 collection by Harry Halim can be interpreted as a continuation of the designer’s previous collections, particularly from hisspring/summer 2011 range.

Entitled ‘Atropos’, after the goddess in Greek mythology who chose the mechanism of death and ended the life of each mortal by cutting their thread, the collection relies on interesting processes of deconstructing fabrics and layering garments. Examples of the designer’s inventiveness include a new cut of trousers with long trains at the back, and dresses with high slits and floating sharp pointy hems that evoke the image of Atropos floating amidst black clouds and souls. Sheep fur, leather, python skin, and customized leather provide animalistic feelings of wilderness to the collection that contrast with elegant fabrications from silk crepe and cashmere.

LUKER by NEIGHBORHOOD x George Cox L-BOOTS

George Cox and LUKER by NEIGHBORHOOD team up yet again for the 2011 fall/winter season. This time the project takes inspiration from hunting and military aesthetics further fused with a creeper theme on the toe box and lightweight Vibram outsoles. Branding can be seen on the tongues and insoles while the functional removable heel straps offer a few styles in which the boots can be worn. Available in two colors, this latest collaboration is now available through select retailers worldwide.

Porcelain MMX Latest Footwear Collection: The Red Brick-Sole Edition

Following the success of the ‘Low Cut Series’ release in July 2011,Indonesian footwear brand Porcelain MMX has issued a new range of limited number shoes entitled ‘The Red Brick-Sole Edition’. This latest collection by Porcelain MMX includes derby shoes with brogue cap-toes insuede upper, goat skin in the inner layer, as well as brick red EVA comfort outsoles that provide the name to the range. The collection is available in four colours: navy blue, gray, tan, and olive green. The collection is presented in limited stock and available exclusively at Soled store in Jakarta, Indonesia.

This afternoon, Mark Parker and Tinker Hatfield were some of the esteemed guests who pulled the covers off a sneaker many years in the making. Originally seen in a fictional context in the Back to the Future II movie, the Nike MAG will finally release in a production run of 1,500 pairs. The limited run coupled with an eBay auction format will surely disappoint avid sneaker fans who have fought tooth and nail to make the sneaker a reality. However, consolation comes in the form of all net proceeds from the sneaker’s sales being donated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to help eradicate an illness that has severely affected the lives of Fox and many across the world. The sneaker aesthetically is virtually identical to the one worn by Michael J. Fox and his Marty McFly character circa 2015. For this 2011 Nike MAG release, a glowing LED is seen in the heel with an electroluminiscent Nike logo in the strap. The illumination can be achieved via “a pinch of the ‘ear’ of the high top” with an estimated glow time of five hours per charge.

Snake & Dagger

 London-based Snake & Dagger presents its crafty Fall/Winter 2011 collection. The Japanese influenced brand prides itself on fusing vintage styles with contemporary style to highlight its unique look. The set showcases the brand’s intriguing denim washes, with materials sourced from Okayama. The variety within the crop provides a little something for every preference, whether classic, vintage, or future.

The conglomeration of a variety of blogging entities, in conjunction with Style Salvage and Six London, now presents their final product in what is dubbed the “Autumn Leaves Kicking” Boot. The project brought together six influential bloggers alongside Style Salvage to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece of footwear. Upon one look, you will immediately discover the inspiration behind the boot, as the aesthetic mirrors that of the changing of the leaves during the autumn season.

As the Spring/Summer 2012 collection marks the sophomore effort from Japan’s F.S.Z, the brand looks to expand upon its merging of differing cultures with street fashion. Dertbag Design, a streetwear brand with suburban Connecticut roots, has garnered attention and near instant online sell outs in recent months due to the endorsement from founder Phil Post’s good friend Tyler Okonma (known to most as Tyler, the Creator). For Fall 2011, Dertbag has created a collection of tees, pants, hoodies and knitwear that draw upon influence from 16-year-old founder Phil Post’s upbringing in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and incorporate the brand’s “Keep it Gutta!” lifestyle.
